My thoughts on FFXIV Beta

As a Final fantasy fan its the story that really captivates me, and when I read an interview from Game Entertainment.

Komoto: The world of FFXIV isn't just a straight fantasy world, but as you can see in the opening movie, incorporates some technological aspects as well. It still has that medieval feel, and it's designed to be a world where the characters and their adventures feel natural.

The two main points we built around were daily living and adventuring and giving the player the ability to enjoy either one. As for the story, our Scenario Writer experimented with many things not usually seen in online games. For example, there are a couple little riddles and some foreshadowing hidden in the opening movie if you take a close look. We would like to see players working together to progress the story so they don't spoil it by accident in coversation. There are many facets to the game world and secrets hidden in every nook and cranny.

At first I thought FFXIV was not going to have a huge story line and that is would just be quest based stroies from diff NPC's, but as you can see it looks like the story will unfold by others working together, it seems like our charatcers will be incorperated into the game and that really excites me.

Also at the end he mentions that secret are hidden in every nook and cranny, this is what makes adventuring so much fun is finding secrets and achieving something rare that no one else has, makes you feel special.

Another very importatnt part of any MMO is growing your character, and it looks like SE is working hard on this. Here is what Komoto had to say about it.

Komoto: For us, it was thinking, "What do Final Fantasy fans like?" The keyword we came up with was "growth." The most important aspects of role-playing are growing your character, getting new weapons, new abilities and opening the door to new stories and adventures. And that's what FFXIV is, a place to grow through meeting new people and attaining new abilities. There is also a brand new story to enjoy... you could say the theme of FFXIV is combining all these key RPG elements for the player.

I have always been big on acheiving the best equips for my character, and it seems that they are going to put a ton of content into our character growth.

My favorite part so far about FFXIV is that you can mix classes to craete your own class. In this video you can see a Maurder wearing a Mage hat. And could he be using Thaumaturg skills as well?!

At first I thought the guildleves were going to be just boring slash and bash monsters to collect items to return to the NPC like in all F2P MMO's, but after seeing this video footage of a guildleve called "To catch a Theif" that totaly changed my mind about guildleves. Here is the video.

Final Fantasy XIV Online is starting to look really good, I can't wait to get my hands on it. Here is a video on a few classes.
